Sedgefield Squash Club provides the opportunity for members of all abilities to play, enjoy and improve their squash.
The main focal point of the club is the internal leagues, which run throughout the season from September to April. The leagues are well supported from beginner through to 1st team standard and provide the incentive to play people of a similar standard and try to improve upon league position. At the end of the season, the John Rowntree Trophy is presented to the person who has scored the most league points over the season.
In addition, the club runs the following competitions: Team and Individual handicaps, squash blitzes, summer team competition and racketball.
The club is a member of the Durham and Cleveland Squash Rackets Association (D&CSRA) and enters teams into the Durham and Cleveland leagues. In 2018-19 we have 4 mens teams, and a ladies team successfully competing within these leagues.
Racketball provides an alternative to squash. With a bouncier ball, and shorter rackets it is ideal as an enjoyable and competitive way to improve fitness whilst being a lower impact sport than squash. A number of members play racketball on a regular basis and the club is always keen to support any initiatives for more or new members to take up the option of playing regular racketball.
Sedgefield boasts one of the strongest junior sections in the region. Whilst we have developed County & Regional champions and seen juniors go on to represent the club teams, we have also introduced many youngsters to the sport and shown them that they can enjoy the game at whatever level they choose.
The junior section of the club has its own committee who organise coaching and competitions, and link into the County junior set up.
Our racket and ball introductory sessions are aimed at youngsters from the ages of 3 to 7 and help develop hand-eye coordination. From the ages of 7 onwards we run a number of Saturday morning coaching groups, and organise leagues and competitions as well as offering opportunities to access the courts to play friendly games, and holiday “bootcamps”.
We run teams who play against other clubs in the Durham & Cleveland region, and encourage juniors to participate in County competitions.
Group coaching is undertaken on a Saturday morning by England Squash qualified coaches. Coaching groups are organised as follows:
